Happy Holidays from the Citizens for Support of Yelm Schools!
Christmas in the Park
Christmas in the park was a huge success thanks to some great fall weather, and a wonderful community turnout. Citizens for Support of Yelm Schools had a voter registration table that included information about the bond. The choir was in full performance mode and there was plenty of candy canes, and left-over candy from the parade. It was great to see and speak with a lot of folks that were interested in the bond and in what the Citizens’ group is facing in the upcoming bond measure in February.
School board votes to place a Bond measure on the February ballot
On November 20th, the Yelm School district along with Citizens for Yelm Schools saw a terrific turn out of folks to witness a unanimous decision by the Yelm School Board to place a $98.9M bond on the 2019 February ballot. The board shared the journey over the past three months as they collected feedback from the community and experts in the construction and design industry. Superintendent Wharton presented the board an overview of the bond, which included safety measures for all the schools and replacing both Southworth elementary and Yelm Middle school campuses.
School tax Calculator
To find: go to Yelm Community Schools’ web site. On their homepage, on the left side of their homepage find their “quick links” section. Find “Bond Information.” Click here and you’ll find a ‘School tax calculator,’ link. See what your school tax rates will be when the bond passes. All you need to know is your home’s assessed value and it does the rest. The calculator is a product of DA Davidson, a financial management firm. A reminder that 2018 rates will remain the same, regardless if the bond passes or not.
Continued Communication through Social Media
Now is the time for our community members to continue communicating with everyone you know about the need for the passage of the bond in February of 2019.
We want as many citizens as possible talking to neighbors, family members, co-workers, and friends about the bond, and why the Yelm school district needs it.
