JANUARY ’19 Updates

Campaign Kickoff

With less than a month left until the February 12 election, Citizens for Support of Yelm Schools held two separate events on Monday, January 7 to generate excitement for the passage of a $98.9 million bond. This year, two campaign kickoffs were held: at Yelm Community Center and at Varsity Pizza in McKenna. Many community members, and local dignitaries were in attendance. Nisqually Valley News also covered the event. We’d like to thank Mayor JW Foster for sponsoring CSYS at the community center; and Kevin & Shawna Stephen, owners of Varsity Pizza for hosting us at their McKenna location.

Right now, we are in critical need of volunteers. With less than 30 days left to campaign, we need your help to kick this into high gear. Please respond to our “Call to Action.” Simply going on Facebook isn’t enough to reach and educate voters. There are many in our community that don’t participate in social media.

I’m a letter writer!

Letters of support are also appreciated, and we want to see a steady stream of them in any of the following newspapers (links below will take you directly to their submission page):

Nisqually Valley News  (250 word limit)

The Olympian (250 word limit)

Tacoma News Tribune  (200 word limit)

Ultimately, it’s your choice where to send them to; whatever floats your boat. District voters are spread out across two counties, so we need CSYS supporters to continuously cover these publications with daily or weekly letters through February 12.

Our Community Cares: Local Businesses Support Bond with Promotions

CSYS couldn’t be more thrilled about these great promotions!

Uptown Lounge created a signature drink called “The Supermajority,” because it takes 60 percent plus 1, to pass the bond. We’d like to thank Wayne McCarten, owner and Denise Hibbeln of Prarie Park LLC for this amazing opportunity! Visit our Facebook page to view the Uptown’s “Supermajority” insert and Eddie’s video on his first taste.

Yelm Cinemas will also feature the drink promotion during their trailers. We’re sending a hearty “whoop whoop” to Kelsee Dodson-Carter, Prairie Park’s marketing & advertising guru for this great idea!

Not to be left behind: Varsity Pizza is putting a ‘Yes for Schools’ sticker on each pizza box. Thank you to these businesses for publicly supporting this initiative.

We hope to unveil a few more promotions in the coming weeks, but in the meantime, please support these local businesses and let them know that you saw or heard about their bond promotion announced on Facebook or through our e-newsletter.

School tax Calculator

Let’s promote Yelm Community Schools “School tax calculator.” See what your tax rates would be if the Bond were to pass. The important point to remember is that the school portion of your tax rate will decrease, due to 2018 legislative changes. Encourage your neighbors and concerned citizens to use this tool so they can make an informed decision.
