September ’18 Updates

What’s New

As the new school year begins, so has the journey for the Citizens for Support of Yelm Schools. We’ve added new members, and new strategies with the same goal in mind.

My name is John Corak, I’m co-chairing on the board along with Sandra Manwiller. I currently reside in Roy, I’m married with 3 daughters that all go to Yelm schools. I work as a firefighter at Graham Fire & Rescue and continue to be involved within the communities of Yelm and Graham. My focus, along with the board, is to continually communicate with the community of Yelm, and the folks in Pierce county, and inform them of our goals for the bond in February of 2019.

We’ve also added McKenna PTA president Lanora Siggelkow. She will be helpful to me and the board with shoring up efforts on the Pierce County side of the school district. The other board members include Randy and Susan Hinton and Paul Manwiller, treasurer. We’d like to thank Richard Aronson for his service during the last campaign. He stepped down to pursue other projects and we wish him the best.

Our board started strong this September, gathering for multiple meetings to plan out the next 3 – 5 months. The first order of business was putting together the details for our annual Fundraiser.

This Years Fundraiser

The funds raised from this event will go towards resources for the February 2019 School Bond Campaign (yes, we’re running another bond). These funds will be used in all aspects of campaigning.

Please join us for an evening of music, food and fun! The event is located at Nisqually Springs Farm (“The Schorno Ranch” is located at 17835 State Route 507 in Yelm) and will feature local musicians, a dessert dash, beer and wine sales and a ‘cash call.’ Larry Schorno will host as master of ceremonies so it should be roller coaster of a good time! Don’t forget to bring your debit / visa card for purchases. Go to Facebook and share our event on your personal timeline. Spread the word.

2019 Bond

The leadership group, which is made up of residents, CSYS Board members, contractors, builders, school employees and others are continually meeting and planning the goals for passage of next year’s bond. Bond options are being discussed during these meetings.  There will be more to details on this particular process in future newsletters.
